Project HOPE was founded on the willingness of doctors, nurses and other medical volunteers to travel the globe on a floating hospital ship - the SS HOPE - to provide medical care, health education and humanitarian assistance to people in need.

Today, medical volunteers for HOPE participate in both ship-based care in partnership with the U.S. Navy, as well as land-based missions to provide medical assistance to those in need around the world.

2012 Project HOPE Volunteer Handbook

Our volunteers have been a part of major disaster relief efforts over recent years including work in Southeast Asia after the 2004 Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina medical relief care in the Gulf States in 2005, relief work immediately following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and relief efforts in Japan in 2011. Our volunteers also participate in annual health education and humanitarian assistance missions in Latin America, West Africa and the Oceania region. The generosity and support of our volunteers is truly inspiring enabling us to respond not only to immediate natural disasters, but change people’s lives for the long-term with health education and lifesaving vaccinations.

  • China Nursing Volunteer

    China Nursing Education Guest Professor, Wuhan Universtiy
    Recruiting two nursing volunteers, with a Masters Degree or Ph.D. in nursing, for 6-month+ assignment to join in the international nursing program at Wuhan University, China.

    Project HOPE is recruiting health care volunteers for 3+ week rotations, beginning in April 2011, to support a long-term training program at the Maria Rosa Nsisim Medical and Surgical Foundation.

  • Ghana Volunteer Recruitment

    Recruiting board-certified physicians and nurses with specialization in emergency medicine or critical care for 3-4 week rotations at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.
